What will you discover?
The Peace River region of Florida is home to one of the most important fossil deposits in the world. Fossils in this region range from the Miocene Epoch (about 23 million years ago) to the Pleistocene (about 10,000 years ago). The fossils found here include those of the extinct megafauna (giant mammals), such as mastodons, mammoths, and giant sloths, and extinct animals like saber-toothed cats, dire wolves, and armadillos along with the dozen of species of shark teeth and the sought-after megalodon tooth. There have also been fossils of early humans and their stone tools found in the area.
Lotus Cove offers fossil hunting tours for families, groups, and individuals interested in discovering and collecting fossils. The excursions are led by experienced guides and paleontologists who will take you to the best-hunting sites along the ancient riverbed and share their knowledge and expertise on the fossils you may find.
All the necessary fossil hunting tools and equipment are provided! Don’t worry about the gear. We have it all on-site, including eight kayaks, two jon boats, 12 sifting screens, three viewing boxes, 20 shovels, and dive gear for PADI-certified divers.
